It was cold. The air was crisp and sharp, but not entirely unpleasant. Just enough for the birds to stay in their nests and for everything else to hide away in their burrows, leaving the snowy forest quiet and calm. Winter was harsh in the forest, as it always was, but for the first time, Rabbitheart wasn't suffering through it hungry and alone. For the first time, she finally had family again, and a home that she shared with them in FeatherClan.
For the first time... Rabbitheart finally felt at peace.
The sun was still rising when she left camp, making the layer of frost that covered the ground and trees shine almost like gemstones. She thought about waking her kits, Wolfpaw and Bluepaw, when she thought about where she was headed, but in the end decided to let them sleep. They were training hard, which made her heart swell with pride, but she knew just how much effort they put into it every day. It's alright. Soon, they'll know as much about their father as I can tell
